AAC BOARDS IN THE COMMUNITY

At Inspire Connections Therapy, we take inclusivity to the next level by partnering with businesses and organizations to develop communication boards for community locations across the country.

Each lite-tech communication board is personalized for the specific site and contains frequently used words and environment-specific words to support individuals’ communication in these locations.

What is AAC?

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) covers all forms of communication that is not spoken or sign language. It includes gestures, core boards, high-tech devices, and more.

Businesses and organizations are well-versed in providing accessibility accommodations, and many are even becoming increasingly inclusive. At Inspire Connections Therapy, we want to help you increase your inclusivity by providing access to communication support with a customized AAC board.

Our experienced speech-language pathologist, Lauren Greenlief, MA, CCC-SLP, designs communication boards that are personalized to your unique space. These AAC boards will include everyday vocabulary as well as vocabulary that is useful to your specific environment.

We work collaboratively with your team to ensure that the needs of your visitors are met so non-speaking or minimally speaking individuals can communicate with everyone around!

Why Communication Supports?

AAC strategies and supports assist over 2 million children and adults in the United States. This number does not account for all the individuals who would benefit from AAC but are waiting for resources to become available. By including communication supports at your location, you are providing a more inclusive environment for all people.

HOW IT WORKS

Inspire Connections Therapy will meet with your team to determine the plan for your communication board. General vocabulary and environment-specific vocabulary will be selected before we design your new board. We offer the following services:

  • Single-sided, double-sided, and customized board options

  • Options to edit the appearance of symbols to align with your brand colors 

  • Full access to your communication support at the end

  • Training offered virtually to staff members, if applicable 

  • Printing support as needed
